Kids Want iOS Devices Over Consoles for Christmas
Options
A survey conducted by Nielsen has discovered that there's greater demand for tablets than consoles these days.
iOS devices are the most demanded pieces of tech by American children ahead of consoles and phones.
Nielsen conducted a survey in which they asked kids aged 6-12 and then 13+ what gadgets they would most like to receive in the next six months.
The iPad was the most demanded device in the 6-12 range, with 48% of those asked saying they'd want one. This was followed by Nintendo's newly-released Wii U, which 39% of kids in the survey wanted. The iPod Touch, iPad Mini and iPhone round out the top five, with the first two piquing the interest of 36% of those asked, while 33% of participants fancied an iPhone.
Sony's PlayStation 3 and Microsoft's Xbox 360 only interested about a quarter of those asked, comparatively. Check out the graph below to see where everything else ranked.
Kids over the age of 13 were slightly more restrained in their electronics choices though, with tablets and full-sized computers taking the coveted most-wanted slots. Though the iPad again came top with 21% saying they wanted one, this was down on the 24% who wanted the same product last year. While there's clearly a good degree of interest in tablets among this demographic, they also seem to be less concerned with the brand involved. You can check out how everything ranked for those aged 13+ below.

Cheap games to compensate for the expensive hardware, no surprise I find my self playing iOS games for hours.

Who buys a 6-12 year old an iPad?

Tablets replacing school books now. One high end school here uses only Kindles, and the govt is giving out 6000 Ipads to 5th form students (then again, elections is 15 months away).

xbox 360 & ps3 everyone haves them or have access to them. iPads is kinda sorta of new.
if a new xbox or song console came out, one of those two would be on the top of the list. -
Target has iPads out to ? w and it was full of kids there, over by the consoles was the older crowd.

most kids have PS3/360/Wii
why would you want to buy the same thing twice?
the study ended up that way cuz its what do you not have and want.

Todays youth are the worst generation ever.

Sorry but i'm finding it hard to believe "every" 6-12 year already had a 360 or PS3. That's the age when you first get one. Some of them kids wasn't even born when the consoles dropped.

You can guys can ? and moan all you want about iOS/Tablet/Mobile gaming but its going to be the death nail in consoles. The last 3 generations of iPads can wirelessly airplay 1080p games to TVs, consoles are going to be more and more irrelevant.
