Homer Simpson and Peter Griffin do it all the time. Cause a problem.. Allow the family to react then be the hero by the end of the episode. True it's a cartoon but it's basic psychology. The us government uses that tactic all the time.
Emotionally fragile women want a stage to express their emotions. Seems to me it's easier to play off their perception of reality than it is to fabricate one.
