Fox 2000 is ready to have more hot flashes.
The studio is developing a sequel to the 1993 hit Mrs. Doubtfire, one that would reunite director Chris Columbus and star Robin Williams.
David Berenbaum, who wrote Elf, is writing the script.
Doubtfire starred Williams as a struggling actor and recently divorced father of three who, in order to be closer to his children, takes on the persona of a Scottish nanny, Eupheginia Doubtfire.
Hilarity, misunderstandings and family love ensued to the tune of $219 million domestically and $222 million internationally. Williams won a Golden Globe in the best actor in a musical/comedy category while the movie won best picture.
A sequel has been in the works since 2001 when Bonnie Hunt was tapped to write a script but despite many drafts and other scribes hired, the project slowly died and has been inactive for years, mainly due to Columbus and Williams not sparking to any take.
The project became active again early this year with Berenbaum’s involvement and while it’s too soon to say how things will turn out, Williams and Columbus are attached and hopeful.
Elizabeth Gabler and Marisa Paiva are overseeing for Fox 2000.
In addition to writing Elf, the Will Ferrell Christmas comedy that is now a perennial classic, Berenbaum has also worked on family films such as Haunted Mansion and The Spiderwick Chronicles.
Columbus is in pre-production on his latest movie, Pixels, the sci-fi adventure movie that will star Adam ? and is to shoot in Toronto this summer.
Williams has Lionsgate’s drama The Angriest Man in Brooklyn opening May 23 and is the star of CBS’ The Crazy Ones.

Why? who asked for this? besides Robin Williams?
-
After all this time though? I don't know if people even will want to see this sequel.
-
I aint even think the first one was that funny.
-
It's been 21 years since the last one.
Yeah, that ? long ago.
This is the type of movie that needs no sequel. Stupid move. But whatever.. -
This won't gain any traction. They'll cancel it and just remake the original with Tyler Perry a few years later.

If they were going to do one it should have been a year or 2 after the first. It was different back then compared to now. I don't think it will be successful today.

I thought this was a joke when I seen this tweeted earlier.

They'll give it to M. Night Shyamalan to direct and the twist will be that Madea is Mrs. Doubtfire. Expect to see it on a double bill with Tango & Cash Returns starting Channing Tatum and Chris Pine.

Like I said, they need to hire young writers.
-
dont care for it

dumb move
Robin Williams has way better movies that could get a sequel -
-
My son loves this movie. The premise was kinda far fetched though. No need for a sequel. I can only take so much of robin Williams.

Robin Williams had more bars than most mainstream rappers today with that Raptor Rap joint. He even hit a double time rhyme.
