The Mets had a 7 game lead on September 12. They lost 12 of the last 17 and lost the East to the Phillies on the last day. I should know, I still hear about that ? from these Phillies fans I work with. -

If Bill Buckner had made that play the Red Sox would have won the World Series. Instead, the series went to game 7 and the Mets won the World Series.
I'm from Boston (actually Newton Centre, MA). That play I posted is one of the most famous plays in Boston sports history. That's when everybody thought the curse of Bambino was real. It wouldn't be for another 20 years or so before the Red Sox would win a championship.
