R.KellyThis should be a no-contest.
Although the quality of some of his music, along with the songs he’s written for others started falling off (in my opinion) when he adopted the “Pied Piper" gimmick, the songs he either wrote or co-wrote for others in the 90’s up until 2003, still stand out.

R.Kelly
There was an appearance R.Kelly made on WGCI with Mike Love and the Diz in 98 when promoting his album "R", and he stared singing in studio and mimicking Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, and Toni Braxton's singing voices and nailing all of them. I wish I had recorded it, because it was amazing to hear at the time.
He had a style that many tried to emulate:

Damn I was just having this discussion last week and saw this by Chance I listen to both as they both our Panty Dropper Kings of this R&B ? and was Riding with Kells but some points about Usher were dropped on me that has me @ a stalemate given both their last albums were garbage in comparison to the rest of their catalogs...

Most ? listened to U Got It Bad on some heartbroken ? . That song was a monster.
hell yea a lot of dudes relate to these songs because it happens to everyone if they show it or not
lot of real ? being said on the low -
R.KellyToo many hits, too many ghostwritten hits, too many anthems too much of an impact on the culture. No contest. Usher did his job, but R. Kelly is on another level.

R.KellyI always compare usher to ginuwine

Tale of the tape
Usher:
- Club music
- Babymaking music
- Great dancer
- Great live performer
- Better at hitting high notes...maybe
R. Kelly:
- Club music
- Babymaking music
- Uplifting soul music that inspires
- Wedding music for grown folks
- Potential GOAT r&b live performer
- More versatile singing voice
- Writes most of his own ? as well as others
- Produces smash hits for own albums
- Produces smash hits for other artists both r&b and rap
- Finds and creates superstar artists
- Longer album rolodex
- Created Trapped in the Closet which even though is coonery is more creative than anything Usher has ever done
- Never changed his style to appeal to the masses like Usher did
This topic even existing is disrespectful to Kells to be honest. Literally the only thing Usher does on a higher level is dance. Musically, R. Kelly's talent is a few levels above his. That's not anything against Usher, he's one of the greatest artists of our generation. But R. Kelly makes him look one-dimensional in comparison. -

I was with you until there. Kels is a great songwriter and decent performer but he is lazy at times. I think he has history on his side but currently his future is dim. Usher has lots of upside and in a way is the only person of this generation comparable though they are very different artist. Who are theses superstars he created? -
R.Kelly8701 is my ? though .. . That album revives memories
-
R.KellyDid the poll close or did I vote already? I hope I voted for Usher. He made some music that was a significant part of my childhood.
-
R.KellyDamn it.
-
R.KellyI would say R.Kelly easily. Writer, producer, classic albums, etc.
Usher got one undisputed classic and he rarely writes his own ? .
Usher sing better probably but R. Kelly just overall better -
R.Kellylike an earlier poster stated a fair comparison would be babyface & the R.
-
IMO as Usher goes there really is no one comparable to him thats in his "lane" so to speak.
Only one i can think of is Ginuwine.
And yeah...Babyface and R would be a better comparison....in which R wins hands down. -
R.KellyTHIS HAS BEEN ON REPEAT ALL WEEK LONG

R.KellyHe's very creative, versatile and influential.
He done wrote hits for several other artists and he's got a wide range of music: freaky songs, club songs, slow jams, relationship songs, stories, inspirational, gospel, hiphop, pop, soul, etc. Alot of these R&B cats out now got there style from R Kelly - even they pay homage to him.
