Sales:
Critically acclaim:
Longevity:
Cohesion:
Artwork:
The game is fun however it takes commitment and consistency....whatever you put in, is what you get out of it. Check the allhiphop music archives and some sticky threads that have "CYOL" I started to get this year's recap. If you're interested, check with @Sion to see when the next one will begin. Bad Boy Records- Strengths:
Polished All-Star production team: Bad Boy production team is composed of a exceptional lineup of producers that all share the common trait of making big time hits. Their names may not be superstar levels, but they are the secrets behind the biggest hits that will dominate your ears for years to come. Any artist can come to this label and get a produced classic or hit record.
Label Cohesion : Bad Boy Records label diversity in their roster shall be a main strength. Their level of appeal towards different crowds as well as their marketable potential is of the charts.
Artwork Exceptional cover art and very memorable artistry of album art.
Weaknesses:
Longevity
Potential Classic music- Due to fragile artists mental and work ethic. (Im Looking at you Mr. Electronica)
Sion Records- Strengths:
Longevity: Sion Records may lack a start power line up mainstream and radio wise, however due to loyal and powerful fanbases of indie lovers and the Internet, artists from Sion Records will always have fans that anticipate their favorite artists new release. Loyality can not be undermind, and Sion Records will dominate in that field. Hipsters rejoice!
Potenital Classic music: Sion Records is composed of a label of music junkies who dedicate their lives to their craft. They may lack mainstream appeal, but due to their devotion of their sound, authenic great music shall be delivered. I mean when you have a song composed of Emeniem, Kendrick Lamar, and Tyler the Creator, how can you lose? Maybe owner Sion finally burry the hatchet with Childish Gambino, who would fit perfectly on his label, and have the potential best artistic label team effort. Why? Because its best for buisness dammit! Thats why.
Artwork: Do I have to state obvious again? Do I really have to state the excpetional classic work that Sion Records detail in their album cover art? Didn't think so bruh. Didn't think so. Sion Records artwork is too fly for its own good.
Weaknessess:
Label Cohesion
Record Sales: A price that Sion Records will pay for their roster.
Verdict: This was tough. Both Labels will be staples of its time and be the Lakers to the Celtics of music. But after a close battle, this was tough but IMO the number one thing that edges here is Longevity, which cannot be undermind in music and for that .......
Sion Records gets my vote. -
I'm sorry guys, but I won't be able to make the deadline. Been real busy with some stuff. I'll most definitely judge. But I won't make it in time.
-
Sales: Sion – having Eminem is almost always gonna guarantee big numbers. Eminem aside, the two labels are fairly even, but Sion’s roster is quite a deeper, with a lot of acts who can do good to great numbers, and while Bad Boy might have a name or two who can match this, the gap between the two labels is pretty wide, in my opinion.
Longevity: Sion – Lots of young acts, many whom are already beginning to establish themselves, but not to the point where they would become satisfied, and because of this fall off.
The same goes for Bad Boy, but the depth of Sion’s roster can’t be matched.
Cohesion: Bad Boy – the smaller roster does the trick. While both labels are fairly cohesive, Sion’s very large roster makes it difficult to achieve the same level of cohesion as his counterpart.
Critically acclaim: Sion – more acts proven capable of making critically acclaimed music. There are more wild cards on the Bad Boy roster. While it is completely possible they would deliver some great projects, I consider it more likely, Sion’s roster would dominate the game from several angles.
Artwork: Sion – close call, as both players did really well here. It’s hard to pinpoint exactly what sets the two layers apart, but overall I feel like the little details in the covers pushes the win towards Sion.
Vote goes to Sion with the score 4-1
Sorry for the short explanations, but I'm a bit sick, so I can't really focus on putting a lot of words together -
Sales - Bad Boy. I was nitpicking with this one and I wanted to vote Sion Records strictly for Eminem but I think he is in a space musically where he doesn't need that gimmick single and sees the art of hip hop from a distance and appreciates it now more than ever especially with the personal troubles he's had. Had this been back in the day, Em could have sold more than Bad Boy combined.
I gave the edge to Bad Boy because of John Legend's A Love Supreme album, Chris Brown's 2000 Watts album and Chris Brown & Ryan Leslie's album Girls of the 90s album. Say what you want but John Legend and Chris Brown sells and brings the ladies out. And we all know women still buy albums.
Longevity - Sion. Both labels are deserving of this title but I gave the slight edge to Sion Records. This label has seasoned veterans and young talent that will bless us for years to come with timeless music. Em, Slaughterhouse, TDE and Odd Future have core fan bases that will continue to support them whenever these artists decide to release an album and tour.
Critical Acclaim - Bad Boy. While I believe Em and Kendrick could have swayed this category to Sion, I had to give it to Bad Boy. Two Words. Jay Electronica. I may make jokes about dude never releasing an album but The Autobiography of T’Challa & Pride of a Nation just very well be the albums that hip hop needs to spark everyone and open our eyes more. The Dawn by the Die & Emancipation have my ears ready.
Cohesion - Sion. Sion Records label has a roster that can have so many combinations way more than the albums listed and cross features. The numbers are endless as to what this label could do if it wanted to. I ran the numbers between artists and producers. Lifetimes over could be made with this music. ? their throwaway music could be better than actual artist releases (e.g. Nas). Em's Darkest Corner, Q's Redundant Insanity, and Black Hippy's Rebellion Celebrations are examples of that. The true highlight is the Tale of the Tape featured on Slaughterhouse's Wolfsbane with Slaughterhouse featuring Eminem, Black Hippy, Logic, Tech N9ne, Danny Brown, Black Milk and produced by DJ Khalil.
Album Covers - And here is my tiebreaker. I get to the last category and have put myself through the ringer trying to decide. I love both album covers from both record companies. I'd buy a lot of these albums if they were on the shelf of a music store. They're that beautiful. It was so hard I thought of just saying the hell with it and tossing a coin and leaving it to chance. I forced myself to pick. I went with Sion Records for this one. What gave it that slight edge was the album cover for Flying Lotus x OutKast - FOREVER UNIVERSAL SOUL LOVE POWER. I love that cover. I'd hang that up on a wall it's so good.
In the toughest one I had to vote for, I have Sion Records closely overcoming Bad Boy Triumphant by a score of 3-2.
I have to say for everyone who participated in this Create Your Own Label experience, I truly appreciate the time and imagination put into this. From the rosters, album covers, album titles, and album tracklistings, I was pleased with the amount of detail that went into this. Thank y'all for allowing me to be a judge and vote. -
-
damn i see i was late to vote, i must say off glance i would have prolly leaned toward sion but both teams are easily worthy winners.
