Century Fox revealed at Toy Fair 2016 that they would be targeting an R-rating for Hugh Jackman's final run as Wolverine next year.
This news follows the massive success of Fox's first R-rated standalone super hero movie, as Deadpool absolutely killed the box office this weekend. They previously dabbled with R-rated comic book movies earlier in 2015 with Kingsman: The Secret Service, which also turned out to be a surprise hit, though not as big a success as the world's new favorite merc.
The news comes from a pamphlet or catalog Fox handed out to guests at their Toy Fair presentation. The logo for Wolverine 3 is featured above the theatrical release date, home entertainment release date, and anticipated MPAA rating. See it below.
The move is an interesting one by 20th Century Fox. There was no doubt they would pursue R-rated movies in the future as they explored the Deadpool and X-Force corners of their X-Men universe but to take a character who has been established as PG-13 for over 15 years now is bold. That said, they could be banking on telling an accurate representation of the Old Man Logan story and Wolverine fans having grown past the age of R-rating admittance.
One has to wonder if these plans were made and revealed today following the success this weekend or if the R-rating was already planned prior to Deadpool's box office explosion. Let's bet on the former. In any case, what are your thoughts on an R-rated finale to Hugh Jackman's run as Wolverine?
We have reached out to FOX for comment, and will let you know as soon as we hear back.
The Wolverine sequel, which will be Hugh Jackman's last, is set for release March 3, 2017.

....and it begins...

There's no reason his movies shouldn't have been r from the beginning. One of the few people to have as much blood on his hands as deadpool is Logan.

but but....kids wont buy the toys Iron Man...think about the children!

Idiots. Should have been on this from time.

Viper, Silver Fox, Or Possibly Jean Grey Secks Scene?

Deadpool just opened the floodgates.
Just hope they don't over-saturates this, and think EVERY character deserves an R rating.
These Hollywood execs good for milking a good thing until it runs dry. -
They gonna ? around and do an R-rated Wonder Twins. Have Zan transforming into gas and exploding ? heads while Jayna plays with her ? .

I guarantee you fox is thinking of turning fantastic 4 into an r rated sci-fi comedy. Sad thing is it might catch on if they did it.

Word, very few Heroes need the R and actually depending on the story that's beginning told Wolverine story's don't automatically deserve a R rating. Just because Fox finally got it right with Deadpool doesn't necessarily mean they need to do the same exact thing. Let the character stand on it's on merits, not the success of another character. However, I will say that if you REALLY what to tell a dope Batman story, that ? needs to be a gritty murder mystery where the Batman tracks a serial killer, serial ? , child killer, or and story that early in his crime fighting career when him, Gordon, and Dent are trying to weed out the corruption in Gotham. Every film version of the Batman has been the super heroic version of him, the public has yet to see anything that about the "World's Greatest Detective." Who knows since these mutafuckas stay swagger jackin, maybe this will embolden the WB to give us an rated Batman film with Mr. J as the protagonist and the Joker is just going harder than an muthafucka. -
Batman doesn't need to be an r rated movie at all, no way.

A new report is adding more fuel to rumors surrounding The Wolverine 3 that suggest the film will be rated R and based on the Old Man Logan storyline.
The Old Man Logan rumor has been circulating practically since Hugh Jackman signed on for his third solo outing as Marvel’s most popular mutant. The original Old Man Logan story came from the same creative team behind Civil War, Mark Miller and Steve McNiven, and took place and future where the supervillains of the Marvel Universe had all finally got their acts together and taken out the heroes. The plot followed an aged Logan going with the now blind Hawkeye on a road trip through dystopian America. -
Might as well keep that ? kid friendly.....let the reboot take it up to R.

in a way it would be cool if they would shoot pg13 and r rated at the same time sometimes
i mean to add more scenes where heads get chopped off and ? shouldnt cost that much more.
and they could release it in some theatres or just on the dvd -
How soon ya'll forget. Blade was the first Marvel movie with the R rating... -
