Pittsburgh news anchor Wendy Bell was fired Wednesday from ABC affiliate WTAE after outcry over a recent Facebook post in which she used racially stereotypical language in talking about “young black men.”
Bell had been associated with WTAE for 18 years but could not withstand the outcry over her rant on the station’s own social media account speculating on the perpetrators of a then-unsolved murder.
“WTAE has ended its relationship with anchor Wendy Bell,” Hearst Television, the station’s owner, said in a statement. “Wendy’s recent comments on a WTAE Facebook page were inconsistent with the company’s ethics and journalistic standards.”
Bell was pulled off the air last week and WTAE president and general manager Charles Wolfertz aired a public apology for what he then called Bell’s “egregious lack of judgment.”
The controversial comments were posted after a mass shooting in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania, in which six people were killed — but before police had made any arrests. “You needn’t be a criminal profiler to draw a mental sketch of the killers who broke so many hearts,” Bell wrote. “they are young black men, likely in their teens or early 20s.
“They have multiple siblings from multiple fathers and their mothers work multiple jobs. These boys have been in the system before. They’ve grown up there. They know the police. They’ve been arrested. They’ve made the circuit and nothing has scared them enough. Now they are lost. Once you ? a neighbor’s three children, two nieces and her unborn grandson, there’s no coming back. There’s nothing nice to say about that.”

Since when young black men have become so associated with mass shootings? I thought that was understood to be more of a white thing.

The delusion of her "needing" to speak her mind. Her social position and class all gave birth to that delusion.... In reality NOONE but herself needed to hear that ? .

Cause that part really kicks it to ? how ill white privilege is. Going to his manager with props was the most racist part of her post, and it probably made her feel the least racist.
Homie was probably finishing up work, happy he was bout to go home and blaze a J. Or just eat some Captain Crunch and hit the COD. Whatever. And she got him as the great black hope cause he was doing his job without robbing her or pulling the heat out over a tip.
The expectations are the ? up part. In her mind, banging and killing is so routine and expected of ? , that a black kid simply breathing without committing a crime is to be celebrated. She talked about duke wiping off tables and carrying glasses like he just popped in off the streets to lend a hand, and wasn't a muthafuckin busboy. If she saw a white kid do that, she wouldn't even stop spreading the miracle whip.
I already know her cracka vision photoshopped him in a cane and a zoot suit the whole time. She probably listened to pandora ragtime station on the way home. -
She watched 10 Shirley Temple movies that night
Imagining all black men as soft shoeing ass ? ready to teach her the Charleston at the drop of a hat -
