Netflix has placed an order for a 10-episode series of “She’s Gotta Have It,” a remake of #SpikeLee’s 1986 debut film. According to #Variety, Lee is set to direct each half-hour episode and will serve as an executive producer on the project alongside his wife and producing partner, Tonya Lewis Lee.
The series revolves around Nola Darling, a twenty something year old artist based in #Brooklyn, who is on a journey to define herself and properly manage her time with her friends, “her Job and her three Lovers: The Cultured Model, Greer Childs; The Protective Investment Banker, Jamie Overstreet; and Da Original B-Boy Sneakerhead, Mars Blackmon.” Lee made a public statement about the film saying, “SHE’S GOTTA HAVE IT Has A Very Special Place In My Heart. We Shot This Film In 12 Days (2 Six Day Weeks) Way Back In The Back Back Of The Hot Summer Of 1985 For A Mere Total of $175,000. Funds That We Begged, Borrowed and Whatnot To Get That Money. This Is The 1st Official Spike Lee Feature Film Joint And Everything That We Have Been Blessed With In This Tough Business Of Film All Have Been Due To SGHI.” The series marks Lee’s first experiences with a series television show. The show also comes just in time to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the original film.
