Only ? can judge Tupac — and apparently Chuck D too.
Just a day after Tupac Shakur was named a nominee for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Public Enemy rapper had a difference of opinion on his qualifications.
“Got forever love for PAC BUT there AIN’T a solo rap act that should get in the RRHOF before LL Cool J,” Chuck Dtweeted Thursday. “I don’t care about what naysayers think.”
Shakur, who died after a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas in 1996, is considered one of the most influential rappers in history.
Tupac, Pearl Jam among finalists for Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
LL Cool J, meanwhile, has two Grammy Awards and has been nominated another seven times, but has never reached such critical acclaim.
He currently hosts “Lip Sync Battle” with Chrissy Teigen.

I'm the biggest Tupac fan ever but he right. Run dmc then ll should a been right after. His 80s and 90s impact came before Tupac. But pacs death threw off the most chronological order.
-
Thats a fair argument but life aint fair.
-
i agree wit Chuck D
-
LL does get disrespected a lot tho.
-
I'm a 90s kid but I admit the 80s legends should be honored first. Especially L
-
I'm not mad at his argument but I don't care who gets in when. As long as we get in.
-
Damn I would have thought he was in.
-
Besides @_Goldie_ , I may be the biggest Pac supporter in the IC.
With that said, it is criminal the way LL Cool J has been erased from the archives as one of the GOATs. His pen game, catalog, and longevity should have him (arguably) in everybody's top 10 or possibly top 5. The guy was a beast with it and should have already gone into the HOF alongside Run DMC.

Can definitely make the argument here. LL helped pave the way after all.
-
Yeah chuck right
-
No argument here. LL was ahead of his time.
-
Gots no beef with what he said.... but who's in before who really doesn't matter to me

Can't disagree with an og on this one
-
Their argument would probably be that his impact didn't transcend rap music. Still BS tho, but we need our own HOF anyway
-
LL was performing on the Grammys b4 mainstream media was ? with hip-hop.
It was damn near rare if ever, to see a rapper on tv back then....
http://youtu.be/Zl9YF3Heb14
...based on this alone, i couldn't be mad if LL got in b4 Pac. -
why not both?
-
Nothing but validity written

Hmmmm......I could a duck about a. Rap act in the rock n roll hall of fame... I don't give a duck about the rock n roll of. fame. No offense to you just never understood why any hip-hop head would consider that an honor -
I can't argue against Chuck
-
I really tried to refute this because my personal bias thinks Tupac has better music and embodies "rock n roll" better than LL. But from a perspective of merit as measured by sales, longevity, success, influence, and seniority, LL does deserve it more.

ll was around since kurtis blow ...in crush groove
who still around like that other than the legend dougie fresh who was in beat street -
Cosign Chuck D
-
I can agree. A lot of rappers want to be like Pac, but a lot of rappers from Pac's day wanted to be LL Cool J
-
I'm a Pac fan as well but def think LL should've went before PAC.
