Academy Award-nominated director Lee Daniels was dismissive of the “Oscars So White” movement in a recent interview, saying that artists should be more concerned about letting their work stand on its own.
“Go out and do the work,” he told The New York Times in a feature of his upcoming Fox series Star. “Oscars so white! So what?”
“Do your work. Let your legacy speak and stop complaining, man. Are we really in this for the awards?” asked Daniels, who was nominated for his work on Precious: Based on the Novel “Push” By Sapphire.
“If I had thought that way — that the world was against me — I wouldn’t be here now,” he told the Times. “These whiny people that think we’re owed something are incomprehensible and reprehensible to me. I don’t expect acknowledgment or acceptance from white America. I’m going to be me.”

He said he doesn't care about white acceptance. He clearly does care about the controversy. Fewer black people should care about white acceptance honestly. If more were like that, we'd probably have stronger black neighborhoods instead of a bunch of hoods with all the successful blacks slumming with white people in order to feel gratified. -
I actually agree with what he said
he's still a ? ? though -
This is essentially saying "don't have an opinion, just work"... which I don't agree with.
Unless actors said they refused to work unless awarded, I don't get it. They're still "going out and doing the job" (as he put it), they're also criticizing the racism of the Oscars.
What - does he want to help maintain that ? / ignore it / what ? -

How the hell do you even come to that conclusion?

He didn't say you can't believe the Oscars are too white or express that belief. He just said people should stop whining about it and looking for white acceptance. -

He asked how someone could be both a ? and a ? . I have a logical explanation as to how that could be possible. -

I get saying "? you" to white acceptance, but not acknowledging racism or calling it out ?
It's not about "whining" so to speak. Using that term is just blaming the victim as they say. -
My fault, I should've rephrased it better.
What I meant to say was if your black how do you even come out with logic like that? -
Yeah he's bugging. Like I said in the last thread he went out of his way to say the Jamal character was so black folks would see the homophobia he dealt with...but racism is too much? ? him

I was going to bring this up felt like he not even worth me discussing ever again.
Can't see racism but created the Jamal Lyon character to blow the lid off homophobia in the black community. That dude is ? crazy!!! -

I get that. I agree that you should point things out, but when it becomes this big thing, I think that's when people start to call it "whining." I think he's just saying that people should call it racist and then keep it moving rather than dwelling on it so much. At the end of the day, what did anyone hope to accomplish? Will getting a few token minority nominations or awards really make anything better? -
I guess this the "playin the game" aspect he was referring too when criticizing Monique
2016 is been the year of the ? -
Nah, because what he fails to realize if that we don't fight for our acceptance, they are going to re write history AGAIN and say they invented/created things that are popular. Ex: Rock N Roll
He sounds foolish as hell ? this ? ass ? -
? em both
-
@zzombie, meet the first Black natural ? .
