Although there wasn't political or religious commentary on Ready to Die he definitely went deeper than materialism.
"Things Done Changed" is one of the most vivid depictions of the ? epidemic, all these lyrical miracle conscious #woke MCs couldn't pull that ? off to save their lives.
"EITHER YOU'RE SLINGIN ? ROCK, OR YOU GOT A WICKED JUMPSHOT" -

I bought good kid ,section 80, tpab ..listened to them 3 months straight..and now have no desire to revisit any of them
Ready to die and LAD still get spins
Kendrick's music always get spins at homecomings when it's time to show love to alumni from the West Coast. I've been to quite a few HBCU homecomings. Same thing with Biggie. Just my personal observation.

Big had potential to be GOAT but career was cut too short. U cant compare 2 albums to other great MCs who have deep discogs
Life After Death had alot of filler... its not the masterpiece people say it is. Shoulda only been 1 disc
BIG still a legend but Greatest of All Time? He didnt live long enough for that title.
I put him in same breath as The D.O.C.
WHAT?!!?!?!?!?!?!
LAD is a classic from front to back.. SMH..
I am going to start asking posters' age around here.. Not as a form of disrespect... But I truly believe you can't go back and listen to an album years later and judge it.. You miss the whole context of the music. If you were a toddler in 97 when LAD dropped you can't really judge that album. You had to be a hip hop fan and listen to the stuff that came out prior to really understand the impact this album had on the culture. LAD, All Eyes On Me, No Way Out, In my Lifetime Vol 2, It's Dark and Hell is Hot, Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of my Blood. Helped move hip hop into the new millennium. Going back and listening to them now you miss a lot of the allure of that music. Because folks have built upon the foundations/precedents this music has set. So when you hear it after the fact the impact isn't the same.
I was 16 when LAD dropped and I have to agree. It was a good album, but it had a little clutter. RTD was better, in my opinion. RTD is an album I can listen to without skipping a song. I can't say the same for LAD.
And I purchased all the albums you mentioned from the Best Buy next to my high school on the release dates. Great albums and sounds better than 90 % of the new stuff today. I miss those days.

No its not a perfect album
Yes it is a classic... but front to back?.... no
And im 28yr old. Been down with this rap ? since i 1st heard GFunk Era in elementary school... ive done my rap homework before Google existed B
Okay.. Humor me.. For Debate sake.. LAD has 24 tracks.. Which tracks would you remove from the album?
- ? You 2nite ft RKelly
- Last Day ft Lox
- Love the Dough ft Jay Z
- B.I.G. Interlude
- Another ft Lil Kim
- The World is Filled ft Too Short & Puffy
- Playa Hater
I disagree with this.. My man said Last Day is clutter? Lol.. I don't think there is much to discuss honestly.. I respect your opinion but I disagree.
All I can say is go back and listen to the lyrics on those songs.. Especially last Day and love the Dough.. -
Last day?!! Last day was one of the best song on lad..and one of the best verse he spits on the albumUhh, uhh, uhh
Who the ? wanna squeeze?
My Desert Ease make MC's freeze
You wakin up in cold sweats, they just dreams
You still apoligizin, analyzin, my size and your size and
realizin, a fist fight would be asinine
You just pop wines I must pop nines
Genuine steel piece, nozzle in your grill piece
You're shook up, two bricks, every cook up
We can hook up, all I see is the future
Disrespect, I shoot ya
By the way, them bricks, get flipped weekly
Sold by soldiers that mix weed with the leak leak
Die for a dollar ? , life ain't sweet
Play for keeps wet shirts with experts on the creep
I be the mob fiance, about to marry it
Illegal transactions in Farragut with Arabics
Why not, they fit twelve up in the bedroom
Imagine what they stash is like, make you a classic like
my first LP, beef with me is unhealthy
? around and get an ul-cer, loose your pulse or
collapsed lung, look how many gats I brung
For them homos, still doin promos
Break both your legs you're movin slow-mo, got shined to glow mo'
Nine hundred and ninety six grams, you need for mo'

Although I like The Lox, I somewhat agree .... Saying something about Biggie (although you purchased his albums/enjoy the music) is like dissing Jesus to East Coast people. LOL! Every person I met from New York, New Jersey, Philly, CT, Boston swear Biggie is the illest dude to touch a mic. LOL! -

So it's wrong to show reverence to a legend from our region? Do y'all get upset when southerners show respect to Scarface, UGK, Outkast etc? Or west coast ? that show respect to Tupac, Dre, Snoop etc? -

It's not going to matter. It's like talking about Jesus and Allah and Buddha. Everybody think's there religion is the right one.
Oh well ... To start I would say 2Pac (although he was bicoastal). Dude snapped on Biggie and his Crew with Hit em Up. Next to Ice Cube's "Vaseline" it was one of hardest diss records. If Biggie was so good - How come he didn't clap back ?????????????????????????????????????? Puffy made the remix of the remix of the remix for a lot of Bad Boy singles. They had a lot of opportunities to put a response out! LOL! -

Claims There's tons of west coast rappers lyrically superior
Refuses to back his claim.
Just making excuses
/close thread -
So no one is going to answer my question about "Hit em Up." How come Big did not respond ???

Rehashing beat to death Pac/Big beef topics is sidestepping your claim. You think Pac is lyrically better than Big? That's highly, highly debatable. But honestly arguing Pac vs Big is boring as ? in 2017.
Can you name all these other west coast artists lyrically better than Big, since you said there's plenty? -
3K Is much better than Big
-
Scarface is better than Biggie
