He-Man Coming to Theaters In 2019

Sony Pictures has today updated its release calendar, adding two major releases to the schedule. Look for the animated sequel Angry Birds 2 to arrive September 20, 2019 with McG’s Masters of the Universe movie following on December 18, 2019. The still untitled animated Spider-Man movie sees a slight shift, too, moving one week earlier to December 14, 2018.
Masters of the Universe follows Prince Adam, who has the ability to transform into a warrior called He-Man. As He-Man, Adam becomes the last hope for a magical land called Eternia, ravaged by technology and the evil Skeletor.
McG, who is directing the Masters of the Universe movie, recently spoke with CS about his plans for the fantastic world of He-Man.
Originally launched as a popular Mattel toy line in 1982, “Masters of the Universe” spawned several animated series (including the female-driven spinoff cartoon series, “She-Ra: Princess of Power”) along with a 1987 live-action film. Directed by Gary Goddard, the first Masters of the Universe movie stars Dolph Lundgren as He-Man, Frank Langella as Skeletor and, in one of her very first big screen roles, a young Courteney ? as Julie Winston, a teenage character created specifically for the film.
“I think we want to honor the fan base, first and foremost,” he said. “We also need to be cognizant of the incredible resonance of what Kevin Feige is doing with Marvel, and the balance of full-bodied entertainment. That it’s both credible and emotional, action-packed, and the story of a hero’s journey. It’s the genesis of He-Man, it’s the becoming of He-Man. We want it to be clicking on all cylinders in that regard. We’re not going to stop until we get it right.”
The December 18, 2019 release date will see the Masters of the Universe movie opening just two days before both Universal Pictures’ Broadway adaptation Wicked and a mystery live action Walt Disney Pictures fairy tale film. Angry Birds 2, meanwhile, is the first film to claim that date. The animated Spider-Man, then, is now set to face off against Universal’s Mortal Engines.

I guess i'm for it if they base it off of the 2002 cartoon network version and not the kid friendly 90's version and don't over do it with the cgi. for real i'm all the 80's babies are pushing 40 and were done reliving our childhoods do you hear me Hasbro? we don't need a gi joe universe with movies like m.a.s.k in the works that's enough. fun fact he-man was meant to be a conan the barbarian toyline and cartoon but watchgroups felt conan was too adult oriented and violent for a kids show. a decade later we got conan the adventurer animated series though.

I personally hope it falls apart and stays in development hell for another 10 years. Only thing McG's ever done decently is produce TV shows. -

Charlie's Angels movies, Terminator Salvation.
Almost directed a Superman starring young Henry Cavill where Lex Luthor was a kryptonian working for the CIA but WB dodged the bullet and just recast Cavill years later when he was older. -

Ironman had a bigger following from comics than He-man. The movie was actually good and this He-man movie will be trash.

I never said he was 3rd rate I said Luke Cage was. Iron Man was always B tier like Captain America. Not A list like Hulk or Spider-Man.
