I'm not talking about Notorious B.I.G, I'm talking about the guy who copyrighted the name Biggy Smallz thus forcing Christopher Wallace to change his name to Notorious B.I.G. I'm gonna post a couple of tracks. Tell me what you guys think. I think he sounds like a cross between Snoop, Warren G and Bone Thugs. Definately a West Coast style. Makes you wonder if he had a different name would it have helped or hurt? Would you have ever heard of this guy if his name was different?

Here's a video of Notorious B.I.G talking about his name situation. He says that Biggy Smallz sent him a notice in the mail telling him to stop using that name.

OK, I figured it out. The first few songs I posted were actually decent. But here's a song that Biggy Smallz made in 1991 that's complete trash, although it does prove that he was using the name first.

Alright but tell me what do you think of his style? The song Nobody Rides For Free that I posted was pretty decent.
Do you guys think the name Biggy Smallz helped or hurt in the long run?
I mean, that song Nobody Rides For Free came out in 1994. It's a decent song, but he was competing against Notorious B.I.G. At that point and Notorious BIG was clearly a better rapper (and eventually was crowned KONY). But I kinda think Biggy Smallz could have made it with a different name. -
I think the 1st biggie is wack.
-
I can see him having a run with that style back then under a different name.
-
Biggy Smalls is the GOAT.
-
I guess this is the cat Pac was talkin about on ¨? bless the dead¨.

You can make a Bullseye tho (Target). -
What you've posted makes sense. But it's a sad state of affairs that the video of the guy I posted is using the name Mele Mel. Like he doesn't know that names been taken.
I think I'll start calling myself Jay Z or Notorious BIGI got dibs on Notorious Big G...

Oh shut up. Obviously Christopher Wallace didn't know that Biggy Smallz existed. He didn't have any hits, wasn't getting any play on Rap City or MTV. It's more likely that Big started calling himself Biggie Smalls without knowing the other Biggy copyrighted the name.
But as far as that Melle Mel dude, if you're a rapper, regardless of age, you should know that there's already a rapper named Melle Mel. -
What y'all think of Havoc and Prodeje?

I remember them. I always wondered if it was a coincidence.
It's entirely possible that Mobb Deep never heard of them. They never had a hit song that I know of. -
