Last week, DX reported that Kendrick Lamar's critically acclaimed good kid, m.A.A.d city was expected to debut on the charts with over 200,000 copies sold. Now, HITS Daily Double brings in the final tally on the Compton upstart's much-talked about project.
According to reports, good kid, m.A.A.d city debuted to 242,122 units sold, landing him at the #2 spot on the Billboard 200 sales chart. The Aftermath/Interscope emcee came in one spot behind Taylor Swift, whose album Red debuted at the #1 spot with 1,209,817 units sold.
The Billboard 200 isn't the only chart on which K. Dot's album nabbed a top-tier spot. As of October 23, good kid, m.A.A.d city managed to debut at the #2 spot on the iTunes album chart as well.

Oh @Usmarin3 you have some explaining to do.
-
Damn Usmarine lost
-
Good for him. Despite the negative untruths about "the music industry is dead" or"Hip hop is dead" or whatever, there been multiple rappers sellin decent to good this year.
-
thats pretty damn good... so quality sells? cool...
-
Really happy for the dude. Congrats.
-
shiiiiit.. ? need to get they country swag up lol
T. Swizzle ain't playin w/ these boys haha -
I've always said Jay-Z is scared to drop on the same day as someone like Taylor Swift because his cherished little #1 streak would go down the drain.
-
Dayum, 1.2 mil!
I knew Kendrick's style and his fanbase would allow him to sell.
People buy honest rap nowdays and are tired of the fake drug tales, I doubt Meek will do these first week #s. -
If u look back youl see I said he would outsell Meek Idk if he did but those look like good numbers!
-
Gold by December? Platinum if Poetic Justice pop?
-
Cheers, finally a great hip hop album sales high, when mediocre lames like ricky rossy and irrelevant ass 50 cent its good to see that there's still music with mainstream appeal thats also just dope a ? .
Instant Classic, only ? hatin on it are the ? that can relate at all nor appreciate real hip hop. -
Off topic but Black Jerry but check my thread out
-
No reason to down nobody to up somebody. Good for dude and everybody that sold this year. I never got into that doomsday the music industry's dead nonsense or that negative hate on successful rapper stuff.
-
Damn. He did 100k more than i expected. He could probably go platinum if his next single is a hit.

Ive said Kendricks album was better, but you ? are delusional if you think this dude is commercially relevant. Talking about west coast got his back, how did that work out for Games last album. -
Hey he could of flopped! I might say he not da best but hey he is selling like i predicted!
-
Correct me if i'm wrong, J Cole sold 218k in his first week without Jay-z on any of his singles or propping him up like Dr. Dre did Kendrick. So who really lost, talk to me when Kendrick outsells J Cole or produce more successful singles.

That's awesome but to be fair didn't Kendrick outsell "Ross" too? That ? is more impressive than him outselling J. Cole. He outselling the "untouchable maybach empire".

Doesn't matter what you think, just know that Work out went platinum, Can't get enough went gold, and Nobody is perfect went platinum.
Ya'll going to be in for a reality check when Kendricks album sales comes in. -
lol damn @usmarin3
